Spacious rooms with a nice balcony
06/2017 We booked a mountain view double room which is the lowest category of the hotel. The room is very spacious and nicely decorated. We especially enjoyed the large balcony with a nice view of the mountains. There were always parrots passing, in search of goodies and so you can sit there and enjoy the nature.
Cozy restaurant with delicious food
Since the resort is absolutely away from any civilization, you should either bring something to eat or go to the restaurant. A reservation in the restaurant is recommended, as there are two food layers. All the houses, including the restaurant, are made of wooden beams or log cabins and comfortably furnished. The menu is not very extensive, but there is certainly something for everyone and the dishes are delicious. Only one has to accept a price surcharge because of the isolated situation. We also liked the bar, which is located on an upper floor of the main building and where you can sit outside and enjoy the sunset. In the afternoon, a small cake buffet is offered, which (unfortunately) consists only of packaged cake pieces.
Wonderful location in the middle of the jungle
O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat is located approximately 70 kilometers from the Gold Coast. It is surrounded by the Lamington National Park and is located in the midst of the rain forest and nature. Directly at the resort start several trails to waterfalls, into the jungle and to a treetop trail. We made the hike to the waterfall and the treetop trail, which was both very nice. On the way you can see many birds and other animals. However, it is recommended to start early in the morning, when few other guests are on the road.
Plenty of parrots and a nice pool
A highlight at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat are the many parrots that can be fed and photographed. They are very confident and bounce on hands and arms. There is also a nice pool with a fantastic view, unfortunately we could not use it because of rain. The resort also offers daily excursions and activities. Here we saw a film about the history of the area in the small resort cinema, which was very informative. However, a morning hike with Ranger unfortunately turned out to be a children's event, so we quickly left the jungle trail in the other direction, where you could still watch birds.
Conclusion: Special location in the hinterland of the Gold Coast
O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat is a special location and the trip to the hinterland is worthwhile in any case. We would have liked to stay there one more night, since you can really do a lot.
