Rooms with historical flair
12/2015 We were even allowed to choose our room ourselves, at least whether it should be on the ground floor or the first floor. Because we really wanted to sit on the veranda in the evening, we decided to lug our suitcases up to the first floor. The room is quite large, but also full of a large bed, couch and sofa. The bathroom is also integrated directly into the room. Everything looks very historic, but is still clean and tidy. Only a stereo system and a television show you that you are in 2015. There is also air conditioning, but it is a bit loud and we turned it off before going to sleep. There is no safe, but there is free WiFi in the room.
Small breakfast area at reception
Breakfast was included in our room rate. The breakfast room is on the ground floor directly at the check-in counter. Here you can enjoy a simple breakfast in a historical ambience. In addition to a few juices and coffee, there are cereals, yoghurt, toast, cakes and Australian breakfast (beans, eggs and bacon). All in all, small but nice.
Location outside the city center
The hotel is located slightly away from downtown Rockhampton. Directly opposite is a steakhouse in whose backyard there is a fairly large arena for buck riding events. Competitions also take place here regularly on weekends. However, we were a bit disappointed with the food here. A good beef steak from a German butcher is always better and significantly cheaper. Additional restaurants are located downtown near the Fitzroy River on East Street (5 minutes by car). The hotel gets a small minus because of its location directly within sight of the train tracks. Freight trains occasionally roll out of the nearby marshalling yard here. However, it was quiet at night and the freight cars drive slowly and are therefore not very loud.
No additional services
The Dension Boutique Hotel has its own parking lot and a small garden to the side of the house. There is always a beautiful bench next to every room door. Here you can look at the surroundings in the shade or read a good book. Otherwise, the hotel does not offer any additional services such as a pool, spa or fitness room.
Conclusion
The hotel makes sense especially if you want to stay in a typical old Australian hotel with period furniture. Otherwise the hotel does not offer any added value. There is no pool, trains run directly from the hotel and the city center is not within walking distance.
