Historic windmill on the edge of the old town

06/2023 The Bonne-Chiere Mill stands on a gentle hill at the Brüger Kruisvest, where the medieval ramparts give way to an open green landscape. The current mill is a 1911 reconstruction, continuing the long tradition of windmills along the city walls. Its name, "Bonne Chi re," roughly translated as "good cheer" or "merry activity," refers to the lively atmosphere that once prevailed here, when several mills operated simultaneously and the neighborhood was shaped by the rhythm of the milling. Today, it is a quiet landmark, impressively preserving the city's history and its centuries-old relationship with the wind.
