Beautiful town hall in Belgium
06/2023 The Leuven Town Hall in the Belgian city of Leuven is considered one of the richest examples of late Gothic town hall architecture in Europe. Built between 1439 and 1469, the building is particularly renowned for its exceptionally ornate facade.
The facade thus functions like a stone book of the city's history:
- below, the citizens and scholars
- above, the religious and symbolic figures
- above, the historical rulers.
In this way, the town hall unites the civic, religious, and political history of Leuven in a single architectural program.
