03/2008 The Dominican Republic lives largely from the export of sugar. This is obtained from the sugar cane (Sugarcane). As a rule, the sugar cane is grown and harvested by Haitian guest workers. They live in the poorest of conditions in the country. At this loading station, the sugar cane is loaded onto canes that drive to the sugar factories. In the fields we mostly worked with ox carts.
