Highlights at CotedAzur France

At the CotedAzur there are many highlights to discover. Below is our personal best of the five days between Nice and Cannes.

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

01/2017 On the first day we drove directly from the airport to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. At the small harbor we had delicious pizza at restaurant Le Cadillac - absolutely top! Then we went to Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. A visit to the spacious villa and the surrounding gardens is a beautiful and worthwhile excursion. For the tour it is worth taking the free Audioguide with you. This provides valuable information on the history of the house and its owner. The garden offers amazing impressions by changing stalks during the walk. If you were just in the Rosengarten, you suddenly see the Japanese bamboo garden and three steps further you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay.

Port, beach promenade and fortress in Cannes

Port, beach promenade and fortress in Cannes

In Cannes, we stayed on the Boulevard de la Croisette at the Hotel Grand Hyatt Martinez. From there you can walk alonge the beach promenade to the harbour and to the Filmpalast. From the port you can walk to the small fortress above the town in a few minutes. From there you have a beautiful view - as in the photo. Other attractions are the Market Hall and the Rue dAntibes shopping street.

Mougins and Grasse

Mougins and Grasse

A nice destination off the coast is the small town of Grasse. Grasse is known for its perfume factories, which are located there. Not least, the novel The Perfume by Patrick Süskind has helped the place to become world famous. The Perfume Factory Fragonard is very central in the old town. Today, the building is a museum with a shop. A visit is recommended, but there is a danger that you forget the time when tasting the innumerable fragrances.

On the way between Grasse and Cannes lies the town of Mougins. A trip into the small cozy old town is worthwhile. In the narrow streets are small restaurants and studios of local artists.

Antibes and Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Antibes and Saint-Paul-de-Vence

If you would like to see large yachts at the CotedAzur, you should take a trip to the port of Antibes. On a walk on the old harbor wall you can admire the beautiful boats from above and the Sculpture Le Nomade of the Artist Jaume Plensa. The nearby old town offers nice cafes, restaurants and small boutiques.

On our excursion to Antibes we also visited Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The city is located on a hill in the mountains. As seen in the picture, the old city looks like a fortress. I liked it very much there, as you can find many beautiful photospots in the narrow streets of the old town. There are also plenty of small shops and studios.

Biot and Nizza

Biot and Nizza

On the way from Cannes to Nice lies the small town of Biot. We have made a detour and walked up from a free visitor parking into the old town. Our goal was the small restaurant Auberge-Crêperie du Vieux Village. There are fantastic sweet and hearty crepes (see also video Biot and Nice). The old town itself invites you to stroll through the small streets.

From Biot we went on to Nice. We parked on the beach promenade near the hotel Negresco. This is about the middle of the kilometer-long promenade. From there we walked towards the Castel Plage. We especially enjoyed the lunch at the restaurant Obsession Pub. There you can enjoy delicious burgers on a small balcony overlooking the promenade and the sea.
