Optimize WiFi with a TP Link Repeater
04/2016 I recently bought a repeater from TP Link to optimize WiFi reception in some areas of the house. A repeater is actually a pretty simple part. You plug it into the socket, press the WPS button on the router and the connect button on the repeater and everything should work. The range of your own WiFi should be significantly greater after a successful connection than before.
There are a few pitfalls though. In my case, the repeater did not connect to the router at all. So I connected the repeater to the PC with a LAN cable in order to configure it directly. But even a static IP or something like that didn't work.
Settings Speedport Repeater function
Finally, I called the TP Link hotline. Here I got the valuable hint that the repeater function in the speed port must be switched off explicitly. This contradicts all logic and also all instructions/help text, but lo and behold, after I switched off the repeater function, the TP Link Repeater was able to connect to the Speedport immediately. Pretty confusing in my opinion. I would never have thought of that. Hope the information helps you!
