06/2008 This photo shows the church of the Eberbach Monastery in Eltville am Rhein. The monastery became famous mainly through the filming of the movie "The Name of the Rose." Some scenes take place in the interiors and courtyards of the Eberbach Monastery. The Name of the Rose is Umberto Eco's first novel, which was made into a film in 1986 with Sean Connery in the leading role.
Eberbach Monastery is a former Cistercian monastery in Eltville am Rhein in the Rheingau, dating back to 1136. Annual events in connection with the Rheingau Music Festival take place in the rooms of the monastery church.
