05/2003 Who hasn't shaken these huge beetles from the trees as a child and smuggled them into the classroom? While the teacher tried desperately to collect all the beetles after the big birds had taken off, there was the biggest laugh ever. The Cockchafer belong to the scarab beetles. The name is derived from the typical fan-like feelers. Incidentally, the antennae of females are much smaller than those of males.
