Here on the island of Ruegen there is a constant breeze. Ideal for kite sports enthusiasts. There are a number of kite and surf schools in Wiek.

Kite kites in the sky
08/2008 I photographed this kite on the beach at Wiek on Ruegen. It is teeming with kite surfers. The kites are held in shape by an inflatable skeleton. The kite is about 3-4m wide and can lift a whole person several meters into the air. This sport requires a lot of practice.
This picture of a kite was taken at the beach of Wiek at Rügen. The beach is a well known hotspot for surfers. The kite has a wing span of about 3 to 4 meters and is able to propel the rider and the board across the water.
