Modern furnished

Modern furnished

02/2015 The way to the room in the Hotel Zum Kurfürsten is a bit longer than expected. Our room is located in a newer extension on another property. From the main house a very long corridor leads underground to the neighboring building. The room itself is on the ground floor. Who enters the room is more or less directly in the bathroom, which adjoins the entrance area as an open space.

The room itself is bright, new and above all very modern. The room air is obviously regulated automatically by a regulated room ventilation. There are sockets on both sides of the bed to charge the smartphones at night. In the bathroom, there is a lighting to the right and left of the mirror. The size of the room is also pleasant.

But there is still something to complain: The bed has only a simple mattress and is too hard. The safe in the room is so small that there only fit in my camera and two purses. Not even an iPad Mini would fit there.

W-Lan is free, but the system requires a new password, every time you turn the smartphone on. The long user name and the password make this process very annoying, especially because you have no reasonable wireless reception except for the W-Lan.

Also bad: It always takes a very long time until warm water comes out of the tap. The high-tech shower was very difficult to use. A simple shower would have done it as well. Who needs a steam cabin with shower, if next door is a whole wellness area?

The food is the best part of the whole hotel

The restaurant turns out to be a real highlight. In our package half board is included. The breakfast is great. Basically, there is everything you could wish for. In addition to the typical things you get pancakes, Kaiserschmarrn, Birchermüsli or even vegan cheeses.

The dinner consists of three courses. The main course and the dessert are freely selectable from five menus. The appetizer can be taken at the buffet. You can either put something together at the salad bar, enjoy a soup or make use of the cheese and bread counter. Everything was delicious and of good quality! The service is very good and the staff friendly.

The restaurant is spread over four areas in different designs. We sat in the Magenta Lounge, which we liked the most.

Surrounded by clinics outside the city

Surrounded by clinics outside the city

The Hotel Zum Kurfürsten is located outside Bernkastel-Kues on a mountain (no Moselle view). From here you can start to beautiful walks through the vineyards. Here are also many health clinics. A walk into the city is quite far and steeply downhill. So if you want more city life, Hotel Zum Kurfürsten is not the best choice. But here you can relax and enjoy the beautiful spa.

Great new wellness area

Great new wellness area

Compared to many other spa hotels, the spa area of the Hotel Zum Kurfürsten is rather large, modern and well furnished. I can not tell if everything is designed according to Feng Shui, but it was a pleasant stay. The variety of pools and saunas is very large and everyone will surely find their "favorite place" here.

In addition there are waterbeds with relaxation music via headphones. When the weather is nice you can relax by the outdoor pool or on the roof terrace. Everywhere it is pleasantly warm. The pools are reasonably tempered.

Negative points are also found here. Above all, there is a lack of storage space and clothes hooks in the sauna area and next to the beach chairs. The spa area is nested and sometimes a ride in the elevator is necessary if you want to use all areas. To use different areas, you sometimes have to take a few ways upstairs and downstairs. A real hot tub is unfortunately not found here. Although there are sitting areas with air vents installed in the pools, the water is just as warm as in the rest of the pool.

Very nice but expensive

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Zum Kurfürsten. Except for minor (probably illness-related) problems with the massages, there was really nothing to complain about. However, the hotel has its price. If that does not bother you, we can recommend a weekend on the Moselle in this hotel.

Here is a note on the hotel booking: What has disturbed me especially, and has led to many misunderstandings, is the booking of massages. This is only possible via an online form. So it came to great misunderstandings with the booking and the appointments and I could not get my massage. The redemption of coupons has led to some back and forth. The service at the time of booking, at check-in and at the reception left much to be desired.
