Here the wind rings the bell

10/2014 On Kos you can occasionally see a frame with a bell standing in the landscape. Usually near a church. Why exactly the bell is in front of the church is not clear to me. There is certainly a religious custom here.

However, according to the guidebook, the Greeks generally do not specify the speed of the wind in force twelve as we do, but rather describe it in terms of its effect. For example, a wind that knocks over chairs and so on. Our force twelve corresponds to the Greek wind that makes bells ring. Perhaps this one in the picture too. I couldn't resist pulling on the cord and making the bell ring.
