Godafoss waterfall and Akureyri

Whales and Herrings

03/2021 On our day tour from Myvatn to our accommodation near Haganes, we first visited the Godafoss waterfall. For me one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, but unfortunately very touristy.

After endless great photos, we went on to Akureyri. The fourth largest city in Iceland is located in the north of the island. The city center can be explored in around an hour.

North of Akureyri we ended up at Strýtan Divecenter by chance because of a Google Maps error. To our surprise, we were able to watch whales with binoculars from there. A local company also offers boat tours in the bay.

In the afternoon we came on our trip through Fjallabyggd. The herring industry used to be the largest employer here. A very exciting museum here gives very exciting insights into how big the fish business was back then.
