Flowers and mountains
06/2021 I took the picture on the way to Seljavallalaug in the south of Iceland. Unfortunately, blooming lupins were rather rare in June 2021, because summer came too late in Iceland.
Incidentally, lupins were introduced by botanists in the 1940s to protect against erosion and to improve soil quality after the Hekla volcanic eruption. Today they cover large areas along the roads and in the coastal regions of Iceland. They are known for their showy, upright inflorescences that soar high above the green meadows, providing a stunning contrast to the wild Icelandic landscape.
