Krauma and western Iceland

Exciting west

04/2021 On our day trip in this travel video in the west of Iceland, we started from our hotel Langaholt Guesthouse. First we went to the coast to Ytri Tunga. Sea lions and other exciting coastal animals live there. The short walk on the coast is worthwhile if you like animals.

Next we stopped at Ölkelduvatn Mineral Spring, a water spring from the ground. Here you can fill up mineral-rich water for a donation. However, the water contains a lot of iron and therefore tastes a bit strange.

Our next stop at the Gerduberg Cliffs was very nice. Thick high stone pillars form a steep cliff in the middle of the landscape. A stone pillar is slightly sloping and it looks like it is about to tumble down the slope. A super nice photo motif.

The snorra eye is also interesting. The small pool not far from the church is connected to the rectory via an underground passage. The pool dates from the 13th century. From that time there are only four left in Iceland.

On our way east we drove to the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. Here hundreds of waterfalls flow down a small cascade into a river. The rock on the surface seems so porous that the water leaks out in many places. Definitely a unique place in Iceland.

At the end of the evening we went to the Krauma thermal baths. Of the hot springs we have seen in Iceland, this is definitely the most modern bathing option. There are pools in different temperature levels, from 6 degrees to 43 degrees. We also found the relaxation room with a wood fire to be the most beautiful.
