Venice: Day trip to Murano and Burano

Small, colorful and beautiful!

03/2015 If you have seen the most important things in Venice, you can also take a look at the area around the city. The real highlights are the islands of Murano and Burano. You can get to both islands cheaply by boat.

Murano is known above all for its glass art. A walk along the canals is recommended. Here, one shop follows the next and there are glass objects and art everywhere. The inhabitants of Murano prove one thing above all: there is nothing that cannot be made from glass. Much of Murano is kitsch, other things are beautiful but also very expensive.

The island of Burano is a little further away from Venice. It is also much smaller than Murano but even more idyllic and, above all, very, very colorful. Apparently, the houses of Burano were painted so brightly so that drunken fishermen could find their way home more easily. Basically, however, it is above all clever self-marketing that the islanders on Burano can obviously make a wonderful living from.
