04/2023 The Greek Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist is located on the Jordan River, near the historic site of Jesus baptism, known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan. This site is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites worldwide and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, who, according to biblical tradition, is said to have baptized Jesus here in the Jordan River.

Built in the traditional Byzantine style, the church is notable for its golden dome and the ornate icons inside. It serves not only as a place of prayer and pilgrimage, but also as a symbol of the long presence of the Greek Orthodox community in the region.
