04/2023 The photo shows the Cardo Maximus in Gerasa (Jerash, Jordan), the monumental main street of the ancient Roman city. Lined with mighty rows of columns, this magnificent avenue stretched for almost 800 meters and connected central squares, temples, and markets. Today, the remains of the colonnades and the cobblestones are still well preserved and impressively convey the image of a flourishing metropolis of the Roman East. In the background, the modern city of Jerash can be seen, highlighting the contrast between past and present.
