Hotel The Residence in Madeira
For our vacation on Madeira we chose the Hotel The Residence from the Portobay Group.

Nice big room with balcony
11/2018 Our room was actually a suite and consisted of a living room, a bedroom, two bathrooms and a kitchen. From the balcony you had a beautiful view of the bay and the sea. You had to climb a few steps to get to the pool. The hotel is laid out in terraces and some rooms are located below the pool towards the sea. The kitchen was fully equipped with a refrigerator, stove, plates, cups, kettle and toaster. The dishes were always washed properly by the maids or put in the dishwasher. There was a very large safe in the bedroom and the WiFi reception was also perfect in the room.
Very good buffet restaurant
The normal buffet restaurant is located directly at the main pool. You can see the pool and the complex through sliding panes. Some tables are also outside under the open sky. Even at peak meal times, we usually never had to wait long for a good table. In addition to the main restaurant, there is another restaurant and a bar where live music is often played in the evenings.
Hotel pool
There are a total of three pools in the hotel. The main pool in front of the restaurant with a pool bar. The main pool was always 22 degrees during our stay, which I found a bit too cold. The pool at the spa, which is partly indoor and partly outdoor and has a comfortable 26 degrees water temperature. Then there is a whirlpool with a water temperature of 31 degrees.
Other facilities
The hotel has other facilities, some of which can be used free of charge. The fitness room, for example, is free of charge. There is an additional surcharge for mini golf, pool table and sauna. However, the sauna is very small and in my opinion not quite worth the extra charge. The massages offered are still reasonably priced and my back massage was quite good.
Particularly noteworthy is the free underground car park. You can park your rental car in the underground car park at no extra charge. All you need to enter is a room card.
Conclusion
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel The Residence. The rooms are quiet, the beds are comfortable, and the food in the restaurants is delicious. We also liked the free underground car park and the stable and fast WiFi. There were always enough loungers by the pool and at least the pool at the spa had a pleasant temperature. We would definitely go to this hotel again.
