Historic fortress

09/2022 The Forte de Nossa Senhora da Queimada was commissioned in 1588. Due to many changes in the people involved, the construction of the fortress was not completed until the end of the 17th century. Afterwards it was used for different purposes. After a long period of vacancy, there was a brief idea in 1962 to convert the fort into a hotel. At the same time it was classified as a national monument. The classification was finally confirmed in 1974. It was partially repaired in the 1980s and can be visited today.
