11/2022 The Balcones de la Avenida Maritima are a very well-known sight in Santa Cruz, the capital of La Palma. A number of old houses from the 16th and 17th centuries line the beach promenade. Originally, the current beach promenade did not exist and the balconies were at the back of the houses, as at the time they were built, they were seen as airy and cool storage areas and the toilet was often found there.
