Sandy beaches as in the Caribbean

Sandy beaches as in the Caribbean

10/2016 If you are looking for beautiful beaches with light sand, Fuerteventura is the right place. There are beautiful sandy beaches in the south of Costa Calma, as well as in the north near Corralejo. The picture shows the beach Playa Risco el Paso. The long bay has enough space for all beach lovers. Naturism is not unusual here. Between the shrubs and boulders, sun worshipers are often found reclining in the sun naked.

Lighthouses like from a novel

Lighthouses like from a novel

There are many lighthouses on the island and a visit is often worthwhile. The picture shows the lighthouse at Morro Jable. Also beautiful, but only accessible by a 19 km long gravel road, is the lighthouse in the south, the Faro de Punta Jandia. An equally striking lighthouse is the Faro de La Entallada at Las Playitas. This one is easily reached via a paved road and offers a beautiful view from above on the steep coast.

Place of pilgrimage Betancuria

Place of pilgrimage Betancuria

The small pilgrimage town of Betancuria is hidden in the mountains of Fuerteventura. In the center of the village is the well-known church Iglesia de Santa Maria. A walk around the church and between the adjacent buildings is worthwhile. There are also several restaurants and small shops in the side alleys, but all were closed at noon.

Salt Museum

Salt Museum

On the east coast of Fuerteventura is the Salt Museum Museo de la Sal Salinas del Carmen. In an illustrative manner, salt is extracted from the sea water. A short visit is worthwhile. The museum is located directly on the road from the capital to the south in the direction of Costa Calma.

Cheese museum and cactus garden

Cheese museum and cactus garden

The cheese museum (Museo del Queso Majorero) with cactus garden is one of the most beautiful tourist attraction at Fuerteventura. For a low entry fee, you can look at an old windmill from inside, experience the history of cheese making and taste the different types of cheese. We didnßt like the cheese very much, but this is a maater of taste. Included in the entrance is the cactus garden, which is beautifully designed and shows a great variety of cacti species.
