Viewpoint for plane spotting at Frankfurt Airport
Watching planes take off and land is a great thing (planespotting). Here are a few tips for Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

		Getting to the viewpoint
06/2014 It's really fun, especially at Frankfurt Airport with its many flight movements. The most important thing is the right vantage point. There are definitely several. For example the visitor terrace in the airport building. The vantage point I visited is out on a small hill, right between the runways and the A5 motorway. Getting to this viewpoint by car is actually easy. Take the exit to Cargo City/Zeppelinheim on the A5. However, there are no legal parking spaces on the airport side. Only one employee parking space is still available. All other stopping options on the street have now been declared a no-stopping zone, which is also regularly checked.
Hence my recommendation. At the exit, drive in the direction of Zeppelinheim. If you drive down the A5 from the north, you have to drive past the Cargo car park and back around to get to the bridge that leads over the motorway. After the bridge or after the descent, if you have come from the south, turn immediately left again into the forest. The small street leads to the Zeppelinheim S-Bahn station. Follow the street to the next crossing. Here you will find some parking spaces that can be used freely (see the red box on the map).
Runway view
Of course you can also travel by train. Take the S-Bahn S7 eg from Frankfurt main station in the direction of Riedstadt-Goddelau. Get off at Zeppelinheim S-Bahn station. From there you can walk to the viewpoint (dashed line on the map, approx. 900m). The viewpoint is at the blue circle on the map, right next to the Airlift Monument. From there you have a view of the runway and Terminals 1 and 2 of Frankfurt Airport.
Planespotters pile up here at the best times of the day. For good pictures you need at least a standard zoom (17-70mm) or even better a telephoto zoom. A focal length of at least 150mm is required to get the planes taking off really well in one picture from such a great distance (see the picture of the Lufthansa plane taking off).
