Edged mountains

06/2021 Flögufoss is one of my favorite waterfalls in Iceland. The water falls about 60m down through a stone arch. If visibility is good, you can also see the rugged peaks of the Flögutindur.

Behind the top of the waterfall is a prominent mountain peak called Smátindsfjall, or small peak mountain. The edges are called smátindar. The peaks can also be seen from the nearest fjord, Berufjörður, which is south of Breiðdalsvík and Breiðdalur. On the other hand, they are called Smátindur or Small Peak. Flögufoss is an excellent photo spot and, like many exciting places in the eastern region, is undiscovered.

The drive to Flögufoss car park is a short distance from main road 1 of the Icelandic Ring Road in Breiðdalur. From the parking lot, it's a 15-minute easy hike to the waterfall. There is a good view if you walk up the slope on the left. From there you can see the waterfall, the stone arch and the mountain peak in the background.
