Snow can really ruin your vacation

03/2015 Our flight was actually supposed to leave from Frankfurt to Venice on December 27th. Unfortunately, the snowy weather put a damper on our plans. We still arrived a day late.

From Marco Polo Airport, the best way to travel into the city of Venice is by boat. There are basically two lines that go from the airport into Venice. One goes around the outside to St. Mark's Square, the other down the Grand Canal to Giglio, one stop before St. Mark's Square. Costs 15 euros on land and 16 on board. If you want to spend a little more money, you can also hire a taxi boat. This costs around 100 euros and can be worthwhile even for a small group.

On our first day, we walked from the Hotel Kette to St. Mark's Square and the surrounding area. From there, we went past the Basilica di San Marco in the direction of the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo. From there, turn right towards the Arsenale di Venezia fortress. But before that we turn off again and walk down towards the large promenade (Riva degli Schiavoni). This takes us back towards St. Mark's Square, past the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge's Palace.
