03/2023 The amphitheater in Petra is a very special one. Unlike other amphitheaters, it was not built from stone, but was carved out of the rock. It is hard to imagine what an incredible achievement this is and how much rock was removed and disposed of. According to experts, the theater was built in the early first century AD and later expanded. To do this, existing rock tombs were removed, some of which can still be seen on the back wall.
