Trip to Port Louis

02/2009 During our holiday in Mauritius we also made a day trip to the north of the island. First we went to the capital Port Louis. Here we visited the Blue Penny Museum. The museum shows the colonial history of the island and has a collection of valuable stamps from the British colonial era. The Blue Mauritius is also there.

After a visit to the weekly market near the harbor, we took a yacht along the coast in a northerly direction to Trou aux Biches. After lunch we continued by bus to Cap Malheureux with the offshore island of Coin de Mire. Then we went to the Historic Marine company in Goodlands. Here various (historical) ships are rebuilt by hand to scale. Finally we went to the botanical garden in Pamplemousses. It is famous for its water lilies and various types of palm trees.
