Mexico tour Merida, Hunucma & Celestun

Right in the middle of it all, Mexican country life up close

03/2011 In the morning we set off on an unscheduled trip to one of the last active sisal factories near Merida. Here, the leaves of the algae are still being de-fibered and dried in small quantities using ancient machines. Afterwards we went to the small Mayan village of Hunucma. Here we strolled through a small market and explored the surrounding streets. In the afternoon we set off on a boat trip near Celestun. The surrounding mangrove forests are home to many birds such as flamingos and pelicans, which we could easily observe from the boat.
