Cloister of Batalha Monastery

150 years of construction in one building

06/2022 The Batalha Monastery is a huge complex of buildings. The photo shows the very beautiful cloister in the center of the monastery. The building was built after the battle and victory of Portugal over the Kingdom of Castile in 1385 as a thank you to the Virgin Mary. The Monastery of Batalha is a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic and is a World Heritage Site and has been on the UNESCO list since 1983.
