Masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic

06/2022 The Mosteiro da Batalha is an important monastery that was founded on the basis of a vow made by King Joo I. After Portugal's victory over the Kingdom of Castile in the Battle of Aljubarrota on August 14, 1385, he promised the Virgin Mary to build a monastery on this site. The complex has been included in the UNESCO list as a world cultural heritage site since 1983. The photo shows the central vault of the Capela do Fundador.
