Candelaria Cave

Mysterious Bay

11/2022 On the west coast of La Palma there is a small hidden bay by the sea. By car you drive steep serpentines on very narrow roads down the cliffs near Tijarafe. Down by the water is this small settlement called Cueva de Candelaria. I took the photo with a drone. It shows the cliffs and the bay hidden in a kind of cave. Smugglers and pirates are said to have lived here in the past. Thanks to some residents of Tijarafe the settlement was saved from demolition and is now lovingly maintained.
