Temenos Gate in Petra

Gate to the sacred area of the city

03/2023 The Temenos Gate was probably built in the decades after Christ. It separated the area for ordinary citizens from the sacred area, which also includes the temple of Qasr Bint Firaun. Originally, the gate probably had wooden doors and stone arches, of which only the pillars remain today.
