Top 1 - Best sunset drone spot with skyline in Valletta
12/2022 If you want to film the city skyline in Valletta with a drone at sunset, the best thing to do is fly between the city center and Fort Tigne in Sliema. The green area below the picture shows the area that I roughly used for my applications. For an automated release, you may have to apply for smaller areas. I started from Tigne Beach in Sliema. You can also see my exact starting points on the Google map at the end of the article.
Top 2 - Valletta Skyline on the Sliema Ferry
If you want to photograph or film the Valletta skyline up close with the drone, you can also start near the Sliema Ferry. Here one saw the two churches St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral and the Carmelite Church up close. Those filming in the direction of Sliema can also record Monoel Island with its fort. But I didnt find it all that exciting.
Top 3 - Best flight over a historic harborside fort
A really cool drone spot is Fort Ricasoli. The fort is just outside the airport's approach lane and is no longer in use and therefore not a restricted zone. With the drone you can fly very backwards in the direction of Valletta city and film or photograph the pier with the lighthouse.
Top 4 - Senglea with La Guardiola and the Safe Haven Garden
One of my favorite spots in the port is the Senglea district. The tip of the promontory of the district that is part of the Three Cities is still outside the airport's approach zone. The small park Safe Haven Garden is a nice place for the drone to take off and land. In green you can see the flight zone, with which you can take beautiful pictures of Senglea, but also in the direction of Valletta, for example the Upper-Barrakka Gardens.
Top 5 - Flight at Triton Fountain
An exciting flight is also possible at the Triton fountain. Here, however, you should make sure that you don't fly over the airfield, which is usually full of people. But it is also enough if you fly around it once. A good starting point for the drone is the small park at the top of Valletta's city walls. From here you have a good view of everything and you can fly to the Phenicia Hotel.
