Top 1 - drone flight at Munxar Window

Top 1 - drone flight at Munxar Window

12/2022 A real surprise was the result of my drone flight at the Munxar Window. This is a promontory, with a rock arch on the side. The steep, light-colored rocky cliffs have a colorful coloring in the area of the waterline by the sea. Beautiful agricultural fields can be seen at the top of the headlands. A tip, here the evening sun makes the special. So if you want to take nice pictures with the drone at the Munxar Window, you should fly about 45 minutes before sunset.

Top 2 - With the drone in Marsaxlokk harbor

Top 2 - With the drone in Marsaxlokk harbor

Marsaxlokk Harbor is known for its many beautiful small boats and a great harbor promenade. However, if you want to fly a drone here, you urgently need a valid flight permit. The port is located in the exclusion zone of the airport area. A flight is also only possible if you connect your drone to the internet and the flight data from DJI are sent directly to the air traffic control. It wasn't a problem for me, smartphone on, W-LAN hotspot set up and the remote control connected to the hotspot. Brief confirmation of the flight data release and then the drone is ready to take off. In order to get a permit, I had set the maximum flight altitude to 30 meters, which is more than enough for the harbor and the boats. Basically, a flight altitude of 15-20 meters is sufficient.

Top 3 - Blue Grotto

Top 3 - Blue Grotto

I have visited the Blue Grotto twice. Once in the morning and once in the evening at sunset. Both very nice. If you want to fly during the day, then I recommend early morning around 10 am. Then the sun is still sideways and you have few reflections on the water. But I liked the sunset better overall, here you can photograph and film the setting sun directly behind the grotto. Here, too, you need a flight permit, because the Blue Grotto, like Marsaxlokk, is in the closed airspace around the airport.

Top 4 - Dingli cliffs from the air

Top 4 - Dingli cliffs from the air

A beautiful spot in the late afternoon sun is the Dingli Cliffs. However, the area is so large that I would apply for several flight zones. Because the distance from the street to the sea alone is more than 200 meters. I have marked the exact take-off and landing points of my drone on the Google map below. I chose two places for the Dingli cliffs.

Top 5 - Mellieha with parish church

Top 5 - Mellieha with parish church

A really beautiful town in the north is Mellieha. Here I flew with the drone around the parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. A great shot in the evening light. In the background you can also see the red St Agatha's Tower. This is also a great destination for drone pilots, however you are only allowed to fly on one side of the tower as the other side is a nature reserve.
