06/2022 The Pelourinho do Porto in the forecourt of the majestic cathedral takes visitors on a fascinating journey through times gone by. This historical monument, a stone pillar with iron shackles, represents the former jurisprudence. In the past, condemned people were paraded there in the pillory or hung on iron hooks.

With the imposing cathedral as a backdrop, an impressive panoramic view of the Douro River and the old town opens up from the pillory. The characteristic boats on the water complete this harmonious picture.
