11/2022 The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) on the Roque de los Muchachos was officially inaugurated in July 2009 by the Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia personally. The mirror has a diameter of 10.4 meters and is equipped with sensors for near/mid infrared, among other things. For anyone interested in research in the telescopes on La Palma, the visitor center on the Roque de los Muchachos is a must.
