06/2022 The Mosteiro da Batalha, also known as the Monastery of Batalha, is a Gothic masterpiece in Portugal. Commissioned in the 14th century by King Joo I in gratitude for the victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota, the monastery is an outstanding example of late Gothic architecture. The imposing building is characterized by its delicate stone carvings, ornate rose windows and impressive decorations that reflect the magnificent craftsmanship of the time.

The main part of the monastery, the Capela do Fundador, houses the magnificent tombs of King Jo o I and his wife Philippa of Lancaster, and their son, Prince Henry the Navigator. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, the Gothic beauty of the Mosteiro da Batalha attracts visitors from all over the world who are fascinated by the site's impressive architecture and historical significance.
